Franklin County Sheriff's Office warns of scam calls
PASCO, Wash. -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam in which callers claim to be from a law enforcement agency.

Deputies say the callers tell victims that they have failed to pay a ticket after running a red light and that they must pay to avoid a warrant. The callers give victims instructions to pay the supposed fine using a prepaid card.

In a variation of the scam, callers claim to be from Franklin PUD and threaten to turn off the victims' power unless they are paid.

FCSO says the scam is neither new nor unique to the Tri-Cities area but encourages the public to be aware of it.
