SAFER ROADS: Fewer people driving without insurance
TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- KEPR learned far fewer people are breaking the rules of the road.
This year, the number of people stopped for driving without a license has dropped 13%.
It represents 100 fewer cases.
At the same time, state troopers have cited far fewer drivers for not having insurance.
There have been 300 fewer cases -- meaning a faster resolution if you're in an accident.
"I can drive around after getting hit and will get something for it. I can fix my car," says Hayley Cupples, a local driver.
Troopers say stricter penalties have led to more people having insurance.
A ticket for not being insured can cost you more than $700.
