Fewer people ditching jury duty
The three ransom kidnapping suspects were arraigned in federal court Wednesday.
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- KEPR discovered stricter rules are forcing fewer people to skip out on jury duty.

For the past year, Benton County has sent out warning letters to anyone who doesn't respond to their jury summons.

The extra emphasis has worked.

80% of people now show up to jury duty.

Just last year it was 60%.

The changes helped recruit jurors during the recent Kelli Jacobsen trial.

Despite the improvements, hundreds of people still skip out of jury duty each year.

We're told it's rare for them to be fined or prosecuted.
