TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- Ballots went out just last week and many are already making their way back to county auditor's offices.
Staffers in both Benton and Franklin were busy counting ballots collected over the weekend.
Benton County is reporting over a 6 percent return. That's about two percent higher than returns in 2010.
Franklin County is close to a 10 percent return.
Voters aren't surprised at the increase in response.
Steve Wilsteadt already mailed his ballot in. He said, "I do get the feeling that people are on the edge of their seat. People seem to be very much invested in what happens in this election."
Both offices expect a record turnout this year.
Benton County has a web cam of the auditor's office posted on line if you'd like a virtual window into the tallies.
