Donated instruments help Finley build band program
FINLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS RELEASE -- Thanks to donations of musical instruments and the support of many, the newly-formed Finley School District band program is preparing for its first public performance of the year! On Thursday, December 15, the Finley 5th grade band and middle/high school band will perform in the Finley Elementary gymnasium at 1:35 PM and 6:30 PM.
Last year, Finley School District asked for the donation of musical instruments in order to begin building a district band program. Numerous communities responded generously with donations of various musical instruments, and Finley Music Teacher, Mrs. Debbie Dohaniuk, was able to establish a Beginning Band class for all 5th grade students. Now in its second year, the 5th grade band class (which includes nearly 45 students) has been joined by the creation of a new middle/high school band class of roughly the same size.
Under the great leadership of Mrs. Dohaniuk, the Finley band classes have worked diligently to prepare for their first public performance.
"I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work with these band students," Dohaniuk stated. "We have such a giving community that was willing to give up their instruments for these students to play. It is so exciting to watch these students when the music finally comes together. They get totally jazzed and they become motivated to play more. Their energy and excitement makes the screeches and twangs all worthwhile."
Both the 5th grade band class and the middle/high school class will perform twice on December 15, once at 1:35 PM and again at 6:30 PM. The performances are open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend at the Finley Elementary School, located at 213504 E. Cougar Rd in Finley.
