Diversity push paying off for WSU Tri-Cities while enrollment remains stable
KENNEWICK-- Action News contacted WSU Tri-Cities to see if their campus had seen the same spike in enrollment as the Pullman campus, and found local enrollment remains flat compared to Fall sememster.
Campus officials note that's not a surprise, given a 16 percent tuition increase, and the fact that Spring numbers are typically smaller than Fall numbers.
WSU Tri-Cities
• Spring 2012 — Head count 1,468 and full-time equivalent 1,103
• Spring 2011 — Head count 1,511 and FTE 1,116
Other notes sent courtesy of WSU Tri-Cities:
• Our state allocation still is for only 865 FTE, so we continue to accept and serve far more students than we are receiving funding for from the state — even before budget cuts hit.
• Diversity on the rise! Students of color* now represent 23.0 percent of total enrollment at WSU Tri-Cities, compared with 21.4 percent in Spring 2011.
(*This includes Asian, Black or African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and Two or More Races ethnic categories. It does not include the 7% of students who chose “other” or the 1.5% who are International students.)
WSU Vancouver
Spring 2012 — Head count 3,006 and FTE 2,391
Spring 2011 — Head count 3,068 and FTE 2,402
