Deluge of meetings to detail district's needs

Pasco School District’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to place a bond initiative on the February 12 ballot with a debt amount of $46.8 million. The estimated rate for taxpayers is .34 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, or $34 per year for a $100,000 property. The District qualifies for an estimated $38.1 million in State matching dollars, if voters approve the election.

Major projects will be the construction of three large elementary schools to address over enrollment throughout the District. Smaller projects would be prioritized based on need and funds available and could include the relocation of New Horizons High School, site improvements to Stevens Middle School, land purchases for future elementary, middle and high school sites, Twain pick up and drop off improvements and upgrades to mechanical systems at older schools.

Pasco voters who have questions or need more information about Pasco School District’s upcoming bond election are encouraged to attend a public information session. There are still a number of opportunities:

• January 15 at 6 p.m. at Emerson Elementary in the library. This presentation will be available in both English and Spanish.
• January 15 at Angelou Elementary in the library. This presentation will be available in English at 6 p.m. and in Spanish at 6:45 p.m.
• January 15 at 6 p.m. at Markham Elementary in the library. This presentation will be in English with Spanish translation available.
• January 16 at 6 p.m. at the C.L. Booth Building in the board room. This presentation will be in English with Spanish translation available.
• January 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Whittier Elementary in the library. This presentation will be available in both English and Spanish.
• January 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Chiawana High School in the library. This presentation will be available in both English and Spanish.
• January 22 at 6 p.m. at McGee Elementary in the library. This presentation will be available in both English and Spanish.
• January 24 at 6 p.m. at the C.L. Booth Building in the board room. This presentation will be in English with Spanish translation available.
• January 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Frost Elementary in the library. This presentation will be in English, Spanish, and Russian.
