UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. -- A 25-year old man was shot multiple times near Hermiston. He was dropped off at a local hospital and what happened before then is still very much a mystery.

The area around Debbie Cleaver's house hasn't seen a major crime in the last 20 years.

"There really hasn't been any in this area anyway. It's pretty quiet out here," she says.

But Tuesday afternoon, the rural neighborhood outside Hermiston was the site of a homicide.

Deputies say 25-year-old Daniel Dechand was shot multiple times in a house off Sunshine Lane.

Neighbors tell us the road was absolutely lined with police cars and Sheriff's units looking for any information of what would lead to the shooting.

The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office says Dechand was driven to the hospital by someone in a blue '92 Chevy Blazer.

The SUV was pulling a trailer filled with scrap metal.
Deputies haven't said who might have been driving that Blazer.

Dechand has a past conviction for domestic violence and has faced charges for forgery and theft.

"There's some concern because because it's right close to home and I didn't hear anything and I was here all day," Cleaver says.

As for Debbie she hopes they catch who ever is responsible so she can feel safe on her street again.

"I'd like some more information so I know whether I'm safe or not, where I'm at," she added.

Law enforcement does not believe this was gang related.
