Community gardens on the way?

RICHLAND, WA. - Residents in Richland can expect their daily commutes to become a bit more scenic. The city is looking to place more community gardens in the local parks.
Richland already has two community gardens in two parks. One being at the McMurray Park and the other in South Richland on Venus Drive.
The next may be coming to Barth Park. The city says these types of gardens are useful educational tools for children.
A neighborhood meeting will be held at the end of the month to determine if that is an ideal location.

I feel KEPR missed the point almost completely when they mentioned Community Gardens on Friday's news. The purpose of a Community Garden is not to make anyone's commute "more scenic". Community Gardens provide an opportunity for neighborhoods to come together to plan, create and care for a garden. To share with each other their knowledge of gardening and yes, to teach their children what it's like to be part of a community and learn gardening. Many families cannot afford to buy fresh vegetables but can grow them in a Community Garden, have the satisfaction of doing so, and share what they don't need with others.WSU Master Gardeners are mentoring the gardeners when asked and are busy encouraging communities to start their own garden.  They're breaking ground in Kennewick next week for a new garden. It would be wonderful to see KEPR take this more seriously and help us get the word out! There's so much more to it than the 5 second blow by it was given recently!
