Coming soon: a BFT electric bus near you

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- BFT could be the first bus system in the country to use an electric bus.
BFT workers are currently trying to get a grant to build an electric bus.
It could save $50,000 in fuel costs each year.
The bus would be electric powered, but still have a fuel tank for emergencies.
BFT will know in a few weeks if it will get the grant money.
There's no word yet on when an electric-powered bus would enter service.

A California team has developed the technology for the electric bus and has been looking for a platform on which to install and test it. BFT recently sent a bus to California for repairs following an accident and it was during this time that technology met the BFT bus. It will be interesting to see if everything can fall into place.
