Drive-thru worker spots customer in her stolen car

KENNEWICK POLICE NEWS RELEASE -- Virginia Maiden reported that she parked her tan 1995 Toyota 4 Runner in the complex parking lot. When she came out in the morning the vehicle was missing.

Maiden believes that the vehicle was unlocked at the time of the theft. At 1448 hours the same day Maiden called Police and reported that the stolen vehicle was currently in the drive thru at McDonald's at Canal and Kellogg. Maiden is an employee of the McDonald's and was working the drive thru.

Officers responded and contacted the vehicle as it was leaving the drive thru. A male and Katherine York, 22, the driver, were detained. It was determined the male was not involved and was later released. York invoked and was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.

A large amount of clothing with security tags still attached was located in the vehicle. The clothing was collected and found to be stolen from JC Penney and Sears. Investigation is continuing with the shoplift portion of the case.

Kennewick Police reminds all vehicle owners that “When you leave it, Lock it”. Never leave your vehicle unlocked or running unattended. Half of all vehicle thefts are a result unlocked vehicles, keys left or otherwise unsecured.
