PASCO, Wash. -- The nursing field is as competitive as ever these days, but Columbia Basin College is looking to open more doors for those in the medical field.

CBC is looking into offering a four-year nursing program based at the college's Richland campus. Nursing would be the fourth program that takes four years.

Fifty students are enrolled in the current program that lasts two years. The goal is for enrollment to double.

"They've all said that they will be giving preferential treatment to bachelor-prepared nurses, so, yes, we need to get our nurses up to speed in that regard," said CBC President Rich Cummins.

There is no given number on how many more applicants could be accepted. The nursing program would begin in two years.
