Block watch boom in Richland

Block watch boom in Richland
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Action News discovered there's been an explosion of block watch programs in Richland, and it's led to a big drop in crime.

Last year the number of neighborhood watch programs more than tripled.

27 groups are now based in Richland.

At the same time, burglary cases dropped by a third.

Police say more people are willing to report crime as soon as they see it.

Authorities are hoping to start a dozen additional neighborhood watch programs by the end of the year.
