Benton County to accept hazardous waste for disposal
CITY OF RICHLAND NEWS RELEASE -- The spring Benton County household hazardous waste collection event will take place on two different weekends this year, one in Kennewick and the other in Richland.

On Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the Benton-Franklin Fairgrounds parking lot, 10th Avenue entrance, in Kennewick.

In Richland, the event will be held on Saturday only, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the City Shops, corner of Queensgate and Duportail in southwest Richland. Look for signs directing you to the entrance.

Businesses can drop off at either location during a 3-hour scheduled time frame on Thursday, April 3 in Kennewick or Friday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon in Richland. Businesses must contact Clean Harbors, 253-638-3550 to schedule an appointment and complete paperwork at least two weeks before the event.

Hazardous material includes paints, solvents, cleaners, automotive fluids, pesticides, fertilizers, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, propane tanks, and pool or hot tub chemicals. Items not accepted include electronics, tires, appliances, explosives, radioactive materials, asbestos, biohazards and trash. Proof of Benton County residency is required.
