Benton County Jail officer fired for sexual misconduct with inmate
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- A Benton County Jail Officer was fired after accusations that he fooled around with an inmate.

Oscar Gonzalez was an eight year veteran. The Sheriff says Gonzalez was caught on tape having inappropriate contact with a woman in the work release program.

The 39 year old victim reported the incident. The jail worker was put on leave and then fired Friday.

"We have over 600 inmates in there that we care for try to take care of. And when you have something like this where somebody intentionally does something that makes law enforcement look poor, it's hard to swallow," say Benton County Sheriff Steve Keane.

Gonzalez hasn't had any previous complaints against him. Under the law, there's no such thing as a consensual relationship between a corrections officer and an inmate.

Gonzalez was charged with custodial sexual misconduct.
