Longview infant subject of Amber Alert found safe, suspect in custody

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- An infant who was the subject of an Amber Alert in Longview Friday morning has been found safe and the man who took him is in police custody, Oregon State Police said.

Oregon troopers spotted their suspect, 23-year-old Ismail Hashem, on I-5 south in Wilsonville, Ore. just before 1 p.m. and pulled the car over. Hashem and another person inside the car were detained without incident. Also inside the car was the infant, who was not harmed.

The Amber Alert was issued around 9 a.m. when a 14-year-old babysitter called 911 stating Hashem came into her Longview house and took the baby. Hashem is the baby's non-custodial father and has a restraining order in place that bars him from having contact with the child, police said. The babysitter said Hashem then ran away on foot with the child.
