RICHLAND -- More positive progress for the Richland high school student who collapsed Friday. Jeremy Brewer's mother told the district doctors are happy with his progress and will decide today if he'll need an internal defibrillator put in later this week. The external defibrillator at the school is credited with jump-starting his heart and saving his life. So KEPR checked into how many other school districts have these.

We learned Richland just installed five AED's this summer. Kennewick has eight spread through the high schools, Tri-Tech and Lampson Stadium. Pasco does not have any, but told KEPR they are looking into locations and trainings to get them soon. Richland hopes this is the last time they will bring out the machine, but is making sure it's prepared for any other emergencies. Mike Edwards was one of the teachers who rushed to Jeremy's aid.

"I'm sure we'll take an AED machine in the next meeting and show them how simple it is to use, to trust it and to know where they are and I just really believe that our teachers would step up and do that same thing I did or anything that teachers who performed CPR did. It's just what we do," says Edwards.

Doctors say the quick response from fellow students and teachers like Edwards definitely saved his life.
