KENNEWICK -- Neighbors near Layton Park, on 6th Avenue, in East Kennewick met with police and other community leaders Wednesday to take back their neighborhood from criminals. It's the latest in a series of public meetings by Kennewick Police to help neighbors who've "had enough" of the crime, make their neighborhood safer.

KEPR Action news pulled the numbers on calls for service in several parks in east Kennewick and found they're up. In Layton Park, KPD already had 21 calls for service this year compared with 23 in all of last year.

The raw numbers can include everything from a call about an abandoned car to graffiti to a gang shooting.

Kennewick Police said they actually like it that way.

"We look at at that as a good thing because people in this community trust us enough, have enough faith, to call us when they see something is wrong," Sgt. Ken Lattin said, with Kennewick Police.
