Boy Pulled from Water After Nearly Drowning in Pasco Park
PASCO -- KEPR Action News learned the boy pulled from the water Tuesday afternoon at Wade Park is in serious condition, but he is alive. He was being taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.
Wade Park is off Road 54 along the Columbia River.
The call first came in to say the 11 year old had been underwater for 10-15 minutes. It was close to 30 minutes before the child was found and quickly rushed away in an ambulance. This happened as a small crowd stood by, anxiously hoping for the best.
Kay Sumpter and his wife let officials borrow their boat in the first minutes of the search. "It's heartbreaking, that's for sure. He's a youngster...it's a darn shame,” said Sumpter.
Several other people standing by also got in the water and helped, but it took a diver with Columbia Basin Dive Rescue to find the boy in nine feet deep water.
Officials on the scene told KEPR Action News it appears the boy got caught in some of the plant-life under water.
Once he was pulled out, the boy was put in an ambulance and taken to Lourdes Hospital. Action News did not witness CPR being done at the scene.
