Blue Mountain Expansion Still Alive
HERMISTON - Hermiston voters said no to paying for additional classrooms at Blue Mountain Community College. However, the whole project isn't dead yet.
KEPR has learned Blue Mountain is already set to build a new facility across the street from the current Hermiston campus you see here. They'll pay for part of it with a private grant. That project will add more than a dozen classrooms and labs. Since the bond failed the school still needs about $750,000 to add even more classrooms.
"We're definitely not giving up. We're trying to figure out things. We're looking for private donations and corporate contributions. Definitely more additional grants," said BMCC Grant Director Susan Plass.
The school will try to raise that money through new grants by July. The first part of the project breaks ground in early August.
