Hermiston Graffiti Numbers Down

HERMISTON - The KEPR Action News crime tracker discovered graffiti is down in Hermiston after a big surge last winter.

There were 20 taggings in Hermiston in January, which was similar to a high period in early 2009. Between February and April, the number of taggings dropped way down. One of those hit, was Big 5 Sporting Goods.

"I'm amazed that they would put it right out there on the road. On the main drag, too. Luckily the city took care it it really quick," said Big 5 Manager Erik Southam.

Police say there's less graffiti because they are quicker to cover up the taggings, so vandals aren't willing to waste their time if no one sees their art.
