Pink Rodeo

KENNEWICK -- Cowboys and cowgirls dressed in pink.

And it's no fashion faux-pas.

Thursday night at the Benton Franklin Fair it's all about pink and people are wearing it proudly for Breast Cancer Awareness.

"I just saw amazing amount of love, support and honor. I was in aw... I was crying," said Donna Grubaugh a survivor.

Tears of joy as 35 breast cancer survivors are honored at this year's "Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night" at the Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo.

"The support is wonderful. It gives me a good feeling to know i'm not alone in this," said Bernie Rae also a survivor.

Alone, not at all.

A sea of people in pink packed the stadium to show their support. One dollar from every person who bought a ticket wearing pink goes to helping woman who can't pay for a mammogram.

Donna Grubaugh a breast cancer survivor says she isn't surprised by the overwhelming amount of support.

"Everywhere, everyone knows a sister, daughter and aunt... I think people are aware of the huge impact breast cancer has," said Grubaugh.

Bernie Rae has been a survivor for 11 years and just like everyday, she wears her pink proudly.

"I'm tough enough to wear pink, I wear it everyday, I work at Columbia Basin College and they know I'm tough enough to wear pink, I let them know," said Rae.

And pink isn't just for the ladies, Marty Huard says it doesn't ruin his ego.

"No you're tough if you're wearing pink, you got to be tough to wear pink," said Huard.

"I have a tear in my eye when I see a guy because I think they've been through just as much as we've been through and I appreciate their support in this terrible thing we had to go through we all made it we're all survivors.

Last year, the event raised 11-thousand dollars to pay for mammogram for women with no health insurance.

This year, Wrangler will match all money raised and direct it back into the community.
