Busy Time For Dive Rescue
COLUMBIA BASIN--It was a busy weekend for rescue divers.
There were two emergencies at two different locations.
The first was near Othello, the other was miles away at Columbia Park.
Columbia Basin Dive Rescue is staffed by volunteers and covers five-counties.
Action News wanted to know if they're able to respond to multiple calls at the same time.
Action News learned there are actually three-rescue rigs, which allows the teams to split up when needed.
“We'd prioritize them, rescue comes first, the chance to save a life comes first and then we prioritize from there, but we usually have enough people to go to each one at once,” Scott Ruppelius from Columbia Basin Dive Rescue said.
Dive Rescue has eight-volunteers and two-trainees right now.
Finding those willing to volunteer is tough because of the mandatory training and time commitment.
