Hermiston Theft Count Falling

HERMISTON - KEPR discovered thefts in Hermiston are dropping. We found the number of burglaries had been rising since the start of the year, but now they're falling again.

The KEPR Crimetracker pulled the numbers for you. After a spike of more than 50 thefts in march. The number fell to less than 40 last month. Police believe the numbers would have been even better if people weren't making it so easy for thieves.

"In almost all of them, people are just leaving doors and windows unlocked into the house. It's too bad. Just crimes of opportunity," said Hermiston Lt. Tim Beinert.

So far this year, there have been 168 thefts in Hermiston. That's more than one a day. at this same point last year, there were only 142.
