Long-time Pasco Mayor Joyce Olson tendered her resignation at Monday's city council meeting. It will be effective March 31. Mayor pro tem Matt Watkins will take over.
Olson told Action News late Monday night that she's moving to Norfolk, Virginia to be with her finace. Olson was sworn in for her fifth term in January. She became engaged to her old high school friend on Valentine's day. She put her house on the market last Friday afternoon at 3:30 and she had an offer by 5:30 PM.
Olson is orginally from Connecticut. She's lived in Pasco for the last 33 years and was first elected to the city council in 1988. In the mid-'90's she left to become Congressman Doc Hastings' district director. That was a position she held for ten years before re-joining the Pasco city council.
