RICHLAND--A tribute to Trevor Fox at the Horn Rapids ORV Park.
The fond memories come from friends of the 11-year-old and in the form of a public gesture Saturday at the park.
“Trevor was a really good friend of mine and I was working on the same jumps as him and he got out of shape a little bit and crashed,” Johnathon Shaw said.
11-year-old Johnathon Shaw was riding with Trevor when he crashed.
He says it's hard to get back out there, but he's riding smart and hard for Trevor at this weekend’s race.
The two met on the same tracks where Trevor lost his life.
Organizers say the show must go on and that it's what Trevor would have wanted.
He was practicing for this weekend's Northwest National MX Series when he was killed.
“Everybody understands the danger of the sport when they get into it and unfortunately he perished doing something he was passionate about,” Brian Barnes said.
Before the races got started, riders took a memorial lap around the track in honor of Trevor Fox, stopping at the site where the crash happened.
“I was sad and I was thinking they should take that jump out or at least water it,” Kevin McWhirk said.
Trevor was a well-known rider, passionate about Motocross.
Friends say he'd been doing it for years.
The close-knit motocross community was out in full force at the race, thousands of fans and hundreds of riders, some hesitant to get back on the bike.
“It's been kind of hard, but I haven't been really thinking about that. I’ve been focusing on riding,” Kevin McWhirk said.
Trevor’s funeral will be in Irrigon on Friday.
There is a memorial account set up at Banner Bank.
