PENDLETON - We got some congestion issues at the exchange. Here are a couple of the options we've identified here for the northside, " said Pendleton Planner Evan MacKenzie.

Let's call this one Option A. This is the bigger project. The on and off ramps would be further north up 84.

"So what we would do is reroute the westbound on and off ramp to here behind Safeway. Have a signal intersection here. Then have an access road that would come over here and bring people onto the local system," said MacKenzie.

Then lets look at Option B. This one is much less complicated. Just small changes to 20th and 17th streets.

"20th would be southbound only. 17th would be northbound only. The advantage to that is we eliminate the left turn traffic onto 20th, which causes congestion here for traffic exiting the interstate," said MacKenzie.

The city says most people they've talked to have been pretty upbeat about the project. We found one today who wasn't.

"I just don't think I could take any more construction of the roads," said Pendleton's Ken Warner.

For those wondering if this project is just around the corner - it's not.
Physical changes are still several years away.
