KENNEWICK--A tragic accident in Kennewick.

A young boy died, hours after falling off his bike.

He was even checked out at the ER and sent home.

“You just have to trust that they were doing their best you know,” Julie Diaz said.

The loss is still fresh.

Peter and Julie Diaz are still grappling with the sudden death of their 10 year old son, Joel.

“Joel was funny. He had a very, not sarcastic wit, but just a clever wit. He would dress up and do antics and mimic so he was just kind of fun,” Julie Diaz, Joel’s mother said.

The couple has six children; Joel was born right in the middle.

“If you mix creativity with funny, you get Joel,” Peter Diaz, Joel’s father said.

He was riding his bike with his siblings this week, when his parents say he turned too hard and fell off.

The handle bar jabbed into his side.

Telling his mom his stomach hurt, Julie took him to Urgent Care.

Joel was checked out, and referred to the hospital for more testing.

She took him to Kadlec.

“They do all that they can there, do the ultrasound and take lots of pictures and are very kind to him and you know give him some pain medicine, but the ultrasound didn't show,” Julie Diaz said.

Joel was sent home.

His family says that night the family sang worship songs together in Joel's room.

“You never know that that was his last night, we're just thinking we're just taking care of a sick kid who has a doctor's appointment tomorrow and you just think the world is going to go like that,” Peter Diaz said.

Joel's parents say they stayed by his side during the night, even calling the doctor when they thought his condition was changing. But then, they had to call 911.

“You roll your kid over and you just can't believe they're not breathing and they are dead or there is something wrong, more than just simple medicine will be able to fix,” Peter Diaz said.

Peter started CPR paramedics rushed the boy to KGH, where he died.

Right now Peter and Julie Diaz still don't know exactly what happened to their son.

“There was an autopsy. We're waiting on that which will give us more answers, but with that comes a lot more pain, because you ask yourself as a parent what if I had or somebody could have caught it, but nothing is going to bring him back,” Peter Diaz said.

The family says they're taking comfort in knowing Joel is in a better place and want everyone to live life without regret, because you just never know.

The autopsy results haven't been released yet.
