KENNEWICK -- A 17-year-old accused of raping an infant was moved from the Juvenile Justice Center, just hours after facing a judge for the first time.

Action News is not naming the teenager unless prosecutors charge him as an adult.

This evening Kennewick police officers picked up the boy and drove out of the Juvenile Justice Center.

Richland police say the teen was babysitting the nine-month-old baby boy when the rape allegedly took place on Memorial Day.

Cops arrested the teenager early the next morning.

The baby's injuries were so bad he had to be taken to a Spokane hospital.

Because of privacy laws, his condition is being withheld.

In juvenile court Wednesday prosecutors called the crime "horrific" and "unfathomable".

The judge set bail at $50,000, but there could be another bail hearing if the teenager is charged as an adult.
