More Juvenile Cases, Less Staff and Money
By Lena Vargas
FRANKLIN COUNTY—The Franklin County Prosecutors office was also looking forward to the passage of "Prop 1”.
Instead, it's facing an almost twenty percent increase in juvenile crime cases since 2007, but not more resources. In fact—the prosecutor’s office will lose two positions by the end of the year, with another layoff possible next summer. Prosecutors Steve Lowe worries that could mean a return to a huge backlog. “which means someone can be victimized on the street it may take up to nine months before someone in my office can look at the case,” said Lowe. Lowe says his budget now is the same as it was in 1995 with double the population. |
