TRI-CITIES—Sunday kicked off the start of fireworks sales.

They’re legal in Richland, Benton City, and West Richland, but Pasco and Kennewick have them banned.

However, just because they’re illegal doesn’t mean they don’t show up and Kennewick Fire says this time of year is a bad mix for fireworks.

“We are in prime rapid growth conditions right now, in fact it's red flag warning for areas adjacent to us as well as us starting today and the high potential of that maintaining through the July 4th weekend,” Chris Feather from Kennewick Fire said.

Kennewick Fire says you can protect yourself by making sure your lawn and grass around your home is watered.

If you're caught setting off fireworks in Kennewick, you could get a fine.
