Iraq War Veterans Win Dream Vacation
By Molly KelleherTRI-CITIES - A Pendleton couple is about to set out on a dream vacation, but they didn't pay for it or even know about it until recently. Their names weren't just picked out of a hat, they were picked because of their amazing story. Zach and Amy Knight are playing local celebrities for a day at Eagle 106.5 radio station. The two won a radio contest thanks to a boastful brother who wrote in about this deserving couple. "I thought it was a prank at first. Is Tim pranking us? My brother never calls with anything serious. I thought he was just messing around," said Zach Knight. But it was no joke and either is the reason that got them this prize. Zach and Amy Knight have a very unique love story one that started in Iraq. "I was an MP stationed in Iraq doing patrols and convoy security. She was learning to be an MP. She was in my truck, " said Zach Knight. And she was in his truck the day their convoy was attacked. Amy was the one who pulled him to safety and rushed him to medics. Zach lost his leg from the knee down. He was sent home, but through therapy and rehab, he remembered that MP he trained. And when she got hurt, got a purple heart and came home too, he went to see her. They fell in love after war. "There was too much other stuff to worry about love over there. More like worry about your butt and get home," said Amy Knight. Now most of their worries are about simple things like their newborn twins and a 18 month older sister. Which is why a free trip to Cabo seems just right for this couple. "We haven't even been on a honeymoon we did a quick military wedding. Had a baby 9 months later and then twins. So we've been on the go. It will be nice to relax just the two of us," said Amy Knight. This prize couldn't go to more deserving a couple. And we want to thank our friends at Mid-Columbia insurance and New Northwest Broadcasters for giving the Knights this dream vacation. Amy and Zach beat out nearly 600 people for this contest. |
