WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell has been named to lead the energy subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Cantwell, in her second term representing Washington state, will head a panel in charge of a variety of federal energy programs. They include new technologies research and development; energy conservation; global climate change; nuclear, coal and synthetic fuels research and development; and Energy Department national laboratories, including the Pacific Northwest National Lab in Washington state.
Cantwell says her top priority is to find ways to jump-start America's transition to a cleaner energy future.
