OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The state can fine casinos and card rooms caught dealing with gamblers under 18. Now the minors may have to pay up.
The Senate approved a bill Friday that would make it a civil infraction similar to underage drinking. Violators would be fined $125. They'd also lose any winnings.
Card dealers and casinos already are fined $200 to $300 for letting a minor gamble.
The bill's sponsor, Sen. Jerome Delvin of Richland, told the News Tribune of Tacoma it would bring some awareness to juveniles who think gambling is OK and fun.
The bill is supported by the state Gambling Commission and nontribal casinos. No one spoke against it last month at a hearing.
