Fisher's Numbers Below Par

Fisher's Numbers Below Par

By Sade Malloy

Yakima -- Meghan Lunning, Fisher golfer says, "At first I wasn't doing so well but I'm getting better now."

Meghan Lunning's swing might be getting better but Fisher Golf Course is still struggling.

The Fisher Task Force has been trying to bump up attendance numbers ever since the city started talking about cutting costs and cutting the course.

Leonard Leetch, Fisher golfer says, "Maybe couple times every month this year where as last year it was maybe every two to three months."

The task force is trying to save the greens but numbers show attendance is lower than last year.

Members of the task force tell Action News attendance numbers were down in March, April barely broke even and down again in May.
June's been the only month to score big.

Paul Williams, Fisher Task Force says, "Fewer people know about Fisher than there should be and we need to use whatever resource we can to promote the golf course."

Paul Williams blames lack of signage and little advertising.

But others argue the ads have nothing to do with it, the low numbers are a sign of the times.

Neil Barg, Fisher golfer says, "But maybe golf isn't as popular say as it was five or eight years ago you know just depends things go in cycles."

Fisher Golf Course is in a downward cycle right now so what's plan B?

We found out there really isn't one.

Paul Williams, Fisher Task Force says, "Some individual members of the committee may have other plans but right now our focus has been keeping the golf course open."
