$2.5 million for local elementary schools
Action News learned four elementary schools will be receiving grant money to pay for after-school programs.
Amistad, Eastgate, Vista Elementary and Grantham in Clarkston will all be receiving money.
The state grant is worth more than two and a half million dollars.
District officials tell us it will be used to pay for specialized classes, babysitting, and gardening projects.
Highlands and Park Middle School already have that grant - and say the results speak for themselves.
"The kids who come for at least 30 days - their grades improve. They like being at school - and they collect all that data yearly to show that it is a good thing for our students," said Highlands Middle School Principal Aylssa St. Hilarie.
Funding will last five years.
