Oregon Primary: Where Does the East Side Stack Up?
By Molly Kelleher
HERMISTON - All eyes are on Oregon. Oregon gets their shot at picking a presidential nominee.
Action News wanted to know if all the last-minute campaigning in Eastern Oregon made a difference. Tuesday's been a day of drive ups and drop offs. In Hermiston, there is only one place to drop off your ballot this late in the game. "It's going to be good there's a lot of young voters turning out this time around." On the national stage, each of these ballots weighs heavily for the Democratic primary. There are local elections going on too, so not everyone casting a ballot was picking between Obama and Clinton. If you're registered independent or republican, you can't vote in the Democratic primary. And that's quite a few people on this end of Oregon, this is a predominately republican side of the state. That's why at first, no one expected to see much attention paid to this side of the state. Until a couple weeks ago with Hillary still hanging on and Obama needing to keep his lead. Former President Bill Clinton made a stop in Pendleton and a week later Barack Obama came too. "It shows they have an interest even though we have little to say on this side of the state." "To be perfectly honest, it's kind of like a telemarketer. They didn't make their quota they don't really know who we are what we stand for we don't really exist. It's just drumming up votes last minutes votes." |
