Chiropractor License Suspended, Accused of Raping Young Patient
By Chelsea Kopta
WEST RICHLAND -- Richland doctor Jeffery Sullivan was already thrown behind bars and accused of raping a pre-teen patient.
Thursday, the State Department of Health suspended Sullivan's license. But the alleged sex crimes didn't go down at the doctor's office. Rather, documents report the alleged crimes apparently all happened near the doctor's home in West Richland. So Action News went to his neighborhood and talked to a lot of Sullivan's neighbors. They all claimed the doctor's a good guy: a family man with three kids and a liking for motocross. But it's motocross that might have taken him down the road to trouble. Action News got a hold of documents from the State Department of Health and the Benton County prosecutors office, which claim Sullivan is a risk to public health, safety and welfare. The papers say Sullivan treated the girl for a back injury last year. But sullivan already knew her before then, through motocross events. Investigators suggest the doctor used motocross to prey on the child, by taking her to a track and then taking her home to hot tub. The child said she was kissed once, and then kissed again a week later while her sister was there. The child reported she was assaulted in Sullivan's truck, while her sister took the wheel. Health documents detail -- "(Sullivan) was, in essence, grooming (the girl) to participate in a sexual relationship with him." Action News talked to Sullivan's co-workers at Diamond Chiropractic. They said, while Sullivan's out of the office, another chiropractor is working who can see patients. His co-workers did not want to make a statement about the allegations. And of course, Action News tried to reach Sullivan himself at his home, and called, but he wasn't there. According to a state disciplinary manager, the alleged misconduct was revealed by a complaint from a citizen. Sullivan has 20 days to respond to the department of health charges. His trial is set for June. |
