The images have captured the world's attention: A partially submerged cruise ship off the coast of Italy.

Action News sat down with a Hermiston couple who just returned from that same cruise last month. And they say they're not surprised at all about the lax safety measures that led to the crash.

Suzanne Wright and her husband Dave remember the Costa Concordia well. They were just aboard the same ship for a 7-day cruise in December.

Suzanne says when she first saw the news coverage, "I was in complete shock."

She also wonders how any of the passengers knew what to do when disaster struck. The Wrights remember how the cruise ship never held a safety meeting for passengers. But opted instead for a video presentation. And Suzanne remembers new passengers boarding the ship at each port -- Many never receiving any safety training at all.

"There were hundreds of us who got on in Barcelona and we never got any training at all," she recalls.

After hearing about the news, the Wrights looked up the ship's blueprints.
The cabin where they were staying just five weeks ago is now underwater.

"If someone had told me to go back to my cabin, I probably would have done it."

But both agree, a cabin on a Costa cruise ship is one place they probably won't be ever again.
