TRI-CITIES -- Daniel Hansen works out at Hanford and after today, he's a little worried about tomorrow morning's commute. He says, "It's gonna be a skating rink." Today's snowfall quickly turned to ice as the sun set. At six inches and counting, snow plows struggled to keep up.

Richland's street manager explains, "It was certainly a little more difficult than we expected." Cities and police were bombarded with calls of slick roads and car wrecks. Action News found out which roads were the diciest. In Richland, try to avoid the hill at Stevens and Lee by Richland High. Police and tow trucks made lots of stops there today, despite it being a priority stop for plows.

"The hill streets are always a challenge..both for drivers and for us to be able to clear them," says Stairs.

In Kennewick, take the roundabouts extra slow. It's a easy place to lose control. Tow trucks were posted up on Pasco bridges and the exits off of Road 100 . Try to take a detour if it's possible. Police officers tell Action News that if you don't have to drive, especially late at night or in the early morning... just don't. And for people like Daniel, who will be hitting the road for work..make sure you leave earlier and with plenty of patience.

You don't wanna do anything fast. Don't wanna hit the brakes fast, don't wanna hit the accelerator fast, don't wanna turn fast... everything's slow," Daniel says.

But as you prepare for your morning commute..don't forget to enjoy the view. Daniel laughs, "It's a winter wonderland.. have fun."

The maintenance crews are already out there plowing and de-icing roads. They tell me that you can make it quicker and safer for them by parking cars in your driveway instead of the street.
