Benton City Park regains their stolen lights
BENTON CITY - It was like the Grinch showed up himself Friday in Benton City.
As crews were set to turn on the holiday lights in Benton City Park, organizers found every strand had been stolen.
"We came back at 9:00, looked to make sure everything worked and they didn't work! Cause we had none!", explained Doug Johnson, owner of Daddy O's pizza.
Benton City Park sits in the middle of Dale Ave and 8th St. The small park was ready to shine for its first holiday light show, using 3,000 strands that were all donated.
The staff of Daddy O's Pizza played a big role in planning this event.
And despite the loss, they refused to cancel the show. Then, they put the word out that the lights were gone and more donations were needed to keep the show on schedule.
"It's Christmas," says Daddy O's employee Honda Johnson. "And the spirit of Christmas is still there. And if they take our lights, it's ok. We are still going to go down there every Saturday and give hot chocolate. We are going to sit by the fireplace and enjoy Christmas. So, we are still going to be ok."
The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
