Ellensburg -- Sean Guffey says, "The animal shelter is kind of an indicator of the community's environment so if you have a good animal shelter that's going to indirectly affect how someone perceives the local area."

If that's the case, the Ellensburg Animal Shelter isn't doing too well.

With only two full timie employees, they could use some extra help.

Vada Mitchell, Ellensburg Animal Shelter says, "It's cleaning, feeding, doing our deposits, paperwork."

So that's where the web comes in.

The shelter has entered zootoo.com's animal shelter makeover.

Shelters around the nation earn points by getting peopled registered, writing reviews of products and posting animal photos and videos.

Ben & Sara Oblas says, "I think it's great that a small town like this to reep the benefits of a prize like that."

And small town Ellensburg is packing a punch, and in the top three.

Vada Mitchell, Ellensburg Animal Shelter says, "We really could use the million dollars I spend it in my dreams."

There's still a couple months to go before the winner is announced.

But there's already a list of things people would like to see improved.

Michelle Thoreson says, "'Cause that the first thing we noticed when we cam in here, there's not a lot of room for a dog run."

Ben & Sara Oblas says, "Yeah it'd be nice to see a little bigger lobby."

The competition ends in March.

But even if they don't get the million dollars, the Ellensburg Shelter could still see some money, as long as they stay in the top 20.

Second place gets $10,000 and the other 18 get five grand.
