Boarding School for Dogs, Taught by Connell Inmates
CONNELL -- Ever wish you could send your dog off to boarding school and get back a well-behaved pooch? Tri-Cities Animal Control hopes you'll be able to.
They say the Coyote Ridge dog Training program is going so well, they hope to expand it. It's a program where inmates train shelter dogs.
The new vision is to let you ship a stubborn pup off to the prison where inmates would train it to be obedient. Animal Control says it could lead to fewer dogs being abandoned for behavioral problems.
"If you're dealing with a difficult dog or a dog that doesn't want to train well this keeps them focused. They benefit because they become a good dog and they're not in my shelter then," says Angela Zilar, Director of Animal Control.
Coyote Ridge is hosting a "bring your pet to prison" day next month.
Currently more than 50 inmates spend time training more than 20 dogs which helps keep those animals from being euthanized.
