FREE Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings

KENNEWICK -- KGH and Tri-Cities Cancer Center Offer Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings.

Early detection is the best way to prevent breast and cervical cancer. Low-income, uninsured or under-insured women are less likely to receive cancer screening, due to costs, so are more likely to find cancers at later stages. Kennewick General Hospital and the Tri-Cities Cancer Center are helping to ensure that no woman in our region goes without regular mammograms and pap smears due to an inability to pay.

Thanks to generous donations to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation and the Benton-Franklin Fair and Rodeo donation to the KGH Foundation from Tough Enough To Wear Pink Night at the rodeo, a free breast and cervical cancer screening is available.

When – Friday, April 15
Time – 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where – KGH Medical Mall, 521 North Young Street, Kennewick

Screenings are for uninsured and under-insured women, age 18 years and over. They include a clinical breast examination and a cervical examination with a pap test. Women over the age of 40 will receive a free mammogram, as appropriate. Examinations are provided by KGH practitioners.

Some breast cancer interesting facts:

Mammograms are currently the best way to detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable.
Among women age 50 and older, more than 20 percent did not get a mammogram in the past two years.
Most breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50, and the risk is especially high for women over age 60.
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among Washington women.
Screening could prevent 15-30 percent of deaths from breast cancer.

Some interesting cervical cancer facts:

Invasive cervical cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer due to the effectiveness of the pap test.
Cervical cancer is no longer the leading cause of cancer death for women in the nation because many women get regular pap tests.
