Vicente Ruiz Guilty of '87 Pasco Auto Body Shop Killings
SPOKANE, Wash. -- A jury convicted Vicente Ruiz Wednesday of a bloody massacre inside a Pasco auto body shop back in 1987. It left five men dead and a sixth wounded.

Ruiz was found guilty of all five counts of aggravated first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

The men killed were all from the Tri-Cities and between the ages of 20 and 22. A sixth man was shot but survived by squirming under a car in the garage. That man testified against Ruiz at trial.

Franklin County prosecutor Steve Lowe was relieved the 23-year-old murder case was over and five local families finally got justice.

"It has been a very long, grueling and expensive process but this is the most heinous crime that's ever happened in Franklin County and probably in Pasco that I'm aware of," Lowe said. "Mr. Ruiz deserves to go to prison for the rest of his life."

Ruiz tried to claim it was a case of mistaken identity since he looks like his brother and cousin, suggesting they did it.

This was the third trial since the other two ended in mistrials and forced the final attempt to be held in Spokane.

Ruiz will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
