ECHO - Most schools won’t allow iPods in classrooms, but Echo Elementary is trying to change that mindset.

Kindergarten and first grade students are now using iPod Touches as part of their learning environment.

The iPods have many uses in the classroom. They can be used to help students understand how words and letters sound, how to write numbers, and they also have educational games that students can play.

Students say they are fans of having the iPods in the classroom. “I learn numbers and letters, and sounds. Lots of things,” says kindergartner Elliot Glenn. “It feels like I’m learning more stuff.

Thanks to a grant of $4,000, Mrs. Corey and Mrs. Johnson were able to bring in the new technology into their classrooms.

Both teachers applied for the grant money a year ago and were denied, but perseverance paid off. They went for it again and were awarded the money this year.

The school also told Action News they plan to bring in more iPods as well as iPads to their classrooms.
