72 Crashes on Main Burbank Highways

BURBANK, Wash. -- Is State Route 124 a crash-ridden road or just a busy one? After yet another crash near the intersection of SR 124 and Highway 12, KEPR Action News investigated.

We found there have been 72 crashes near the intersection of Highway 12 and SR 124 since 2009. That's an average of around three per month. One of those crashes was deadly, while 21 others caused serious injuries. To give you some perspective, 72 crashes amounts to only 3% of the total collisions in the entire Tri-Cities.

"For one thing, I think it needs to be patrolled better, for another thing, I think something needs to be done about that intersection down there," Tracy Waln said, whose home sits adjacent to SR 124.

State Patrol told KEPR that more people use that area right now because of the harvest season, so they are focusing their resources there.

Troopers said most wrecks come from people simply not paying attention. They added that the most recent crash on Monday was caused by a drunk driver.
