FRANKLIN COUNTY -- New information on 50 tires found dumped in Franklin County. Officials now tell KEPR Action News this was not an isolated incident, instead there is an ongoing problem of illegal dumping.
The Sheriff's Department says it got a call about almost dozens of dumped tires in a corn field near Glade North and Clark Road.
When they checked it out, they found a damaged corn field, tracks and footprints all leading to the tires.
The suspects were hired to clean up a property, but deputies say instead of doing it the right way, they avoided dumping fees by getting rid of the load in the county.
"Illegal dumping, going into the county, it saves those people significant amount of money from going to the dump and paying the disposal costs. It's hazardous materials, in this case the tires. They come to a secluded area, dump them quick and get out," Deputy Steve Warren with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said.
Deputies say a witness saw a U-Haul truck leave the scene.
They followed the lead and found a truck matching the description in Pasco along with the two men they arrested.
Investigators believe this case may have links to another illegal dumping case in Pasco.
