TRI-CITIES -- Football players are starting the season with a new test that aims at keeping them safe.
A sports medicine physician is launching a concussion management program in the Tri-Cities.
It works like this: players take an online cognitive test to establish their baseline. If the athlete gets a concussion, they can't play again until they pass the test similar to their baseline.
"It's definitely a good thing. we want to protect our athletes, concussions are serious and being coaches you don't want to have that liability on your hands. you want all the help and resources you can get," Head Coach Dan Witsett with Tri-Cities Prep said.
Richland, Hanford, Tri-Cities Prep, Pasco and Chiawana are all participating.
Kadlec is paying the cost of the exam for each school.
