KENNEWICK -- A possible scam that didn't come over the internet.

Kimberley Conner called Action News and told us she responded to an ad in the paper for free puppies, but now she's worried it's not legitimate.

The ad offers two free English Bulldog pups as well as two free Yorkie puppies, but after she e-mailed the address given she got a response asking her to pay half of the shipping.

They also explained the family was on a mission trip in Africa and that the weather wasn't good for the dogs which is why they were looking for new pet owners.

All of it seemed too suspicious to Katie so she called Action News.

"I figured that I'm not the only animal lover, I know there is a lot of them around and if I responded to it then it's very possible someone else could have," Kimberley Conner said.

KEPR Action News checked with the Better Business Bureau.

They told us if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

They can't say for sure if it's a scam, but people should be careful when they're asked to wire money to someone they've never met.

Action News didn't stop there, we also called the phone number and got an answering service.
